Iowa domestic violence advocate urges others to join in fight to help Black women

A domestic violence survivor and advocate in Des Moines tells the Inside Black Iowa podcast she wants to train members of law enforcement, the judicial system and child protective services.

🎧"I want to teach these certain spaces . . . how to identify which stage the persons that they are working with are in so that they can use their level of influence and relation in that person's life to disrupt it,” said CEO Courageous Fire, a domestic violence advocate, survivor and trainer.

Summary: Courageous Fire is the founder of Courageous Fire LLC and Courageous Access, two organizations that aim to create safe spaces for Black women experiencing domestic violence. Fire's organizations provide direct services and educational tools to help survivors rebuild their lives. The LLC focuses on training and educating various institutions, such as health care, law enforcement and the justice system, on supporting and understanding Black women's unique needs when it comes to domestic violence.
