On June 4, Representative Eddie Andrews will be taking the podium at the Iowa State Capitol for a “major announcement” at 11 a.m. Andrews, who is now five years into being a Republican representative in the Iowa House, shared a tweet on June 3, expressing his gratitude for his supporters.
“Serving as State Rep. has been an honor,” Andrews wrote. “Together we’ve advanced mental health care, strengthened education & championed family-first policies. Tomorrow, I’m making a major announcement & I’d love for you to be there. Bring your family, a friend & let’s build the Iowa we deserve!”
A native of Des Moines, he is proud to say that providing for his community has been a big goal for him, such as visiting people in the hospital, conducting community cleanups and checking on his neighbors was a custom for him growing up. One of his goals is to provide the same for Iowans now through the position.
“Anytime you feel, or you see someone who may be neglected, if I can help fill that need or help rectify that, I’m there,” he says.
Andrews studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iowa, which led him to work as an app developer and as a tech entrepreneur. He founded #mentronomics, a private group that helps students learn coding and tech for free. Andrews also founded the Des Moines Spanish Conversation Meetup, where locals from Des Moines could come and learn Spanish as a group in a fun environment. He expressed how important it is to stay together as a community.
“If we have strong families, they make a strong community,” he says. “And in turn, the strong community can help other families be strong.”
Andrews shared his eagerness to begin a new phase in his career and his life. When he steps on stage to unveil his announcement, his ultimate goal is to help more Iowans in the future.
“I am excited [for the announcement],” Andrews says. “After praying for months, I am eager to get started, to move into another chapter and to really help more Iowans.”
