Inauguration Day on Jan. 20 presents us with an opportunity.
Jan. 20, 2025, isn’t a day of infamy. It’s just another day. If you’re lucky, you’ll wake up tomorrow and get to do whatever it is you do.
The new president, news pundits and certainly your neighbors will spin things in the days ahead. No matter what, some things won’t change:
Black people built this still anti- Black country and have as much right to thrive and be here as anyone.
Immigrants are our friends, family and neighbors who need and deserve our protection. Stand up for them.
LGBTQ+ia people are our friends, family and neighbors who need and deserve our protection. Stand up for them.
Pregnant people, differently-abled people, children and veterans — each human being — are deserving of autonomy.
White people are not superior to anyone.
You will likely have to pick a side. It’s that simple. It might not be your spouse’s side or your family’s. But there is a right and a wrong and you know that. #standonbusiness
Just like your mom asked you during your youth: If your friends jump off a bridge, are you going to jump, too? The answer was no then, and it’s still no. Don’t be a follower. Think for yourself.
What’s a billionaire got to do with you — except separate you from your coins? Don’t trust in them.
2+2 doesn’t equal 5. No matter how many times they tell you it does. Repetition doesn’t equal truth. Remember that when they parrot lies.
Opinion and fact are two different things, no matter what your dumb uncle says.
Consider the source — of every piece of information this administration distributes. From day one.
Dismantling public education and #DEI is intentional. An ignorant and divided populace is easily manipulated.
More law enforcement action is bad for our freedoms — and safety.
Most people wouldn’t choose someone who was convicted of 34 felonies to lead. Anything. The presidency is supposed to be aspirational. And he ain’t that.
Change, sadness and disbelief are ahead as Americans’ freedoms are surely trampled on by this new administration that is anti-everyone. No matter what, stand with the resistance.
Jan 20th Is MLK day period
First, thank you for today's post, which I appreciate greatly. Second, I'm white, born & raised in Okoboji, living in Los Angeles, so my hand-wringing feels a bit vacuous in the big picture. The bullet points of truth, common sense and humanity you have listed are a reminder to focus on what matters, not the self-interest, distraction and circus thundering down.
