'Trump 2024, F*ck your feelings' flag flies in Des Moines 👀

Opinion: Large flags driven around Des Moines on Saturday sum up former president Donald Trump's campaign. Election Day is Nov. 5.

What a perfect fall day. I’d left an enjoyable, chatty lunch with a friend in downtown Des Moines. I headed home, driving East along University Avenue. I spotted two dark trucks ahead before I stopped at a busy intersection. I immediately saw large flags flapping in the wind emblazoned with an unmistakable, infamous name: Trump.

It took me back to Jan. 6, 2021. I’d left downtown as a white SUV with large Trump signs drove through downtown Des Moines just after the attack on the nation’s Capitol.

I drove beside the trucks on Saturday to get a closer look at the signs:

  • “Trump 2024, Fuck Your Feelings”

  • “Trump 2024: Take America Back”

  • An American flag

  • A Thin Blue Line flag

  • On the back bumper of the Black Cadillac Escalade, a sign read: “Warning: Does Not Play Well With Liberals.”

Big trucks. Big flags. Small-minded people.
